Hi3D, also sold as Hitem3D, promises 1536³ output aimed at printing. This review checks the resolution claim, the credit maths, and the tests worth running before you subscribe.
Hi3D, which also appears as Hitem3D in the vendor's own material, is a hosted text-to-3D and image-to-3D service that leads with resolution: the copy talks about 1536³ generation and print-first output rather than a general asset library. That pitch is narrower than Meshy's or Tripo's, and narrow pitches are easier to judge.
This review covers what that number does and does not buy, where the credit pricing sits against the better-known services, what the public review record is worth at its size, and where a desktop tool is still the right answer. Prices and model versions here move every few months, so treat every figure as a starting point and confirm it on the vendor page.
The product is a browser uploader: you type a prompt or drop in an image, and the service returns a textured mesh you can download and slice. There is no desktop installer and no local compute, so how fast a job finishes depends on queue depth rather than on your GPU. The vendor's headline is resolution, with copy describing generation at a 1536³ grid, and the second half of the pitch is that the result is aimed at printing rather than at game engines.
That resolution figure describes the internal volumetric field, not the polygon count and not the texture size. Services in this category represent a shape as a signed distance field or a sparse voxel octree, evaluate it on a cubic grid, and extract a surface with marching cubes or a similar algorithm. A finer grid preserves narrow gaps, thin fins and small negative space that a coarse one smooths away, but it does not add information the model never learned.
It helps to do the arithmetic honestly. 1536 divisions across a 200 mm bounding box works out to roughly 0.13 mm per cell, which sounds like resin-printer territory. The sampled field is smoother than the grid, though, so the detail you can measure is coarser than that number suggests, and no vendor publishes a modulation transfer measurement. The useful test remains a slicer preview: a feature that survives at 0.2 mm layer height with a 0.4 mm nozzle is real; one that disappears is not.
The table below is editorial judgement, not a benchmark: it summarises how each vendor describes itself and what each one usually suits, based on vendor pages at the time of writing. None of these services publishes a shared, reproducible test set, so any ranking that claims decimal-place precision is marketing.
| Service | Stated focus | Pricing shape | Usual fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hi3D (Hitem3D) | Print-first, single high-resolution path | Subscription plus credits; entry tier listed near $19.90 per month | Detailed static parts: miniatures, reliefs, decorative props |
| Meshy | Text and image to 3D, texturing, animation, API | Credit subscription with a free trial allowance | One tool for game assets and material work |
| Tripo | Fast iteration, studio-style tooling for game assets | Credit subscription and separate API pricing | Quick concept volume and asset batches |
| Rodin (Hyper3D) | High-fidelity assets, PBR texturing, emphasis on mesh quality | Credit subscription with commercial licensing options | Hero props where material quality matters |
Tooling around the model matters as much as the model. A service with a documented REST API, a Blender add-on and a stack of tutorials is easier to put into a pipeline than a slightly better generator with a thin interface, and API access is usually gated behind the higher tiers. If your workflow ends in a slicer, STL and 3MF export on the plan you actually bought is the feature that decides the purchase.
Hi3D sells credits rather than generations, as most services here do. A subscription grants a monthly credit balance, and a high-resolution generation consumes far more credits than a draft one, so a headline like $19.90 per month states the entry price and almost nothing about cost per usable part. Divide the monthly credit grant by the credit cost of the resolution you intend to use, then multiply by your realistic retry rate, because a generated mesh that needs a second attempt is normal rather than exceptional.
The vendor's Trustpilot profile carried roughly 31 reviews when this was written. That is a small base: a handful of delighted or angry customers can move the average by most of a star, and businesses do solicit reviews from satisfied users. Read the entries with a photograph of a finished print, check whether the complaint concerns generation quality or billing and refunds, and treat any average below a few hundred reviews as a weak signal rather than evidence.
Engine versions, credit prices and third-party terms change every few months, and the figures here reflect vendor pages at the time of writing. Verify current pricing, licence terms and export options on the vendor's own page before committing a budget.
One part you have already printed tells you more than a gallery of renders. Pick something with a known hard feature, such as a 1 mm fin, a deep slot or a finely textured surface, and spend the trial allowance on it.
Hi3D is a reasonable choice when you want one detailed static mesh of a single object and you intend to print it: miniatures, relief panels, decorative props, jewellery masters. It is a weaker choice when you need a rigged or animated asset, a large library of consistent props, or a tight API loop inside a build system, which is Meshy or Tripo territory. And for a mechanical bracket with real tolerances, no generative service is the right tool: model it in FreeCAD, Onshape or OpenSCAD, where a 0.2 mm clearance is a number you set rather than a hope.
The cheapest way to evaluate these services is to stop treating them as mutually exclusive. Open3DAI runs one local procedural generation engine and can connect third-party engine APIs with your own keys, so the same prompt or image can go through more than one engine and the results can be compared side by side before you export. Exports cover GLB, glTF, OBJ, STL, PLY and 3MF, alongside 48 format converters, twelve browser tools and a REST API. What it does not do matters just as much: no photogrammetry, no rigging or animation, no automatic retopology, no UV unwrapping, and no promise that an exported mesh is watertight or print-ready without cleanup. Blender, Meshmixer and a slicer stay in the loop, the same caveat that applies to Hi3D's output.
No. The number describes the internal grid used to extract the surface, not wall thickness or manifold quality. Expect to repair, scale and sometimes decimate the mesh before slicing, and check thin features at your real nozzle size in a slicer preview.
List prices in this category move constantly, so compare cost per usable part instead: monthly credits divided by the credit cost of the resolution you need, multiplied by your realistic retry rate. Hi3D's entry tier was listed around $19.90 per month at the time of writing, so check the vendor page before budgeting.
Most paid tiers in this category permit commercial use, but terms differ on reselling the raw mesh and on API or batch access. Read the licence attached to the plan you buy and keep a copy of the terms as they stood on the purchase date.
Send the same prompt or image to several engines, compare the meshes side by side, then export GLB, glTF, OBJ, STL, PLY or 3MF. Creating an account grants free credits and needs no card.
3D AI Studio sells one credit balance that covers image-to-3D, text-to-3D, texturing, rigging and a shelf of mesh utilities, and it routes part of that work to Meshy, Tripo and Rodin. This review works through the published credit schedule, the list prices behind it, and the pipelines where a subscription is the wrong purchase.
The short answer is that Meshy covers the most pipeline steps and Tripo returns the geometry most people keep. The longer answer is that both picks rest on three criteria you can test yourself in one afternoon.
An editorial ranking of ten hosted services and open-weight engines, with the criteria stated up front, two comparison tables, and a plain account of the cleanup every generated mesh still needs.
