3D AI Studio review: how credits are spent, what the plans list at, and who should skip it

3D AI Studio sells one credit balance that covers image-to-3D, text-to-3D, texturing, rigging and a shelf of mesh utilities, and it routes part of that work to Meshy, Tripo and Rodin. This review works through the published credit schedule, the list prices behind it, and the pipelines where a subscription is the wrong purchase.

This article summarizes features and workflows. Unconfigured third-party engines have not been tested on this installation. See the Tripo case for recorded results; vendor documentation governs current features and prices.

Every AI 3D service has to answer one question: what does a single usable model cost, and what happens when the first three results are unusable. 3D AI Studio answers with one credit balance covering 3D generation, image generation, texture work, rigging, animation and a shelf of mesh utilities, priced on a published credit schedule rather than a per-seat licence.

This review works only from what the vendor publishes: the credit cost of each operation, the credits in each tier, the one-time packs, the export list and the ownership terms. Where a number is a list price that moves, it is labelled as one. The final section names the pipelines where Meshy, Tripo, a local Hunyuan3D install or a desktop CAD tool is the better buy.

What 3D AI Studio is, and what this review can verify

3D AI Studio is a generation suite that runs in a browser: upload a reference image or type a prompt, choose a model, wait, download a mesh. Around that core sit texture generation, PBR map extraction, remeshing, LOD generation, UV unfolding, rigging, animation, format conversion, a node canvas called Flow, an API and an MCP connector. Nothing is installed locally and no GPU is involved.

The toolbox: what one credit balance covers

The tool list runs past 35 entries; sorting them by what they do to a pipeline is more useful than counting them.

Generation: image-to-3D, text-to-3D, SVG to 3D, 3D text and a relief generator.
Texture work: a texture generator, Material AI, tileable textures, and PBR Extract, which derives albedo, roughness, metallic, normal and ambient-occlusion maps from one image.
Mesh processing: remeshing, segmentation, UV unfold, GLB compression, mesh repair, add-base and format conversion.
Character work: rigging and animation, the two operations most rivals leave to Blender or Maya.
Delivery: a viewer, a model spinner, ZIP export, a 3D stager, the API and the MCP connector.

Export formats, ownership and the licence line that matters

The vendor lists GLB, OBJ, FBX, STL, USDZ and PLY as download formats, with documented integrations for Blender, Unity, Unreal Engine, Godot, Maya and ZBrush. GLB is the sane default for web viewers and Unity; USDZ matters if you publish to iOS or a headset; STL matters when the mesh is heading for a slicer. The pricing page also states that generated assets stay private to the account, are owned by the user and may be used commercially. Read that literally: it covers the files you generate, not the upstream model's terms.

How credits are consumed, operation by operation

The vendor publishes a per-operation credit table instead of hiding consumption behind vague generation counts. At the time of writing a text-to-3D or image-to-3D run costs 20 credits, a refine pass 5, rigging 20, animation 15 and Image Studio 3 or more, while texture generation, remeshing and LOD generation are listed as free with a plan. The table below converts those costs into runs per 1,000 credits.

Operation	List credit cost	Runs per 1,000 credits	What it produces
Image to 3D	20	50	One mesh with a baked texture from a reference image
Text to 3D	20	50	One mesh from a prompt, no reference image
Refine model	5	200	A cleanup pass over an existing mesh
Rigging AI	20	50	A skeleton fitted to a humanoid or creature mesh
Animation AI	15	66	A preset motion applied to a rigged asset
Image Studio	3 or more	up to roughly 330	Generated or edited reference images

Two consequences follow. The expensive operations are the ones you repeat: a character often needs several image-to-3D attempts before the silhouette and pose are acceptable, so a realistic budget is 60 to 100 credits for one asset that ships, not 20. And the tier cards advertise up to 100 assets alongside 1,000 credits, which implies an average near 10 credits per asset and therefore the cheaper models plus the free utilities. Budget from the credit table, not the asset count.

Subscriptions and one-time packs, as list prices

The pricing page offers three subscription tiers and three one-time packs. Basic is 1,000 credits a month and up to 100 assets; Studio is 3,500 credits a month with all tools and multi-image input; Pro is 18,000 credits a month with three team seats and priority generation. Yearly billing advertises up to 40% off. The site's own summary line says plans start at $19 a month, and the Studio card markets itself as just $10 more. The one-time packs are 2,000 credits for $34, 5,000 for $69 and 35,000 for $399, advertised as never expiring, which is $1.70, $1.38 and $1.14 per 100 credits.

Option	Advertised list price	Credits included	Fits whom
Basic, monthly	$19 a month on the summary line	1,000 credits a month, 100 assets	Trying the pipeline on real work
Studio, monthly	advertised as $10 more than Basic	3,500 credits, all tools, multi-image	Steady image-to-3D, several models
Pro, monthly	listed, but changes with promotions	18,000 credits, three team seats	Small teams needing priority generation
One-time packs	$34, $69 and $399	2,000, 5,000 and 35,000 credits	Occasional projects, or topping up
Yearly billing	advertised at up to 40% off	the same allowance, billed once	Anyone who has validated output quality

Engine availability, credit costs, refund terms and third-party licences change, and every figure above is a list price seen at the time of writing. Confirm the current schedule and the refund window on the pricing page before committing a budget.

Trust signals worth checking before you enter a card

A stated refund window. The vendor advertises a 7-day money-back guarantee and self-serve cancellation; confirm both apply to your region.
Expiry rules per credit type. Subscription credits refresh monthly and usually do not roll over, while one-time packs are advertised as never expiring.
A disclosed model list. The page names Meshy, Tripo and Rodin, more transparency than most aggregators offer. Log which model produced each result.
Published output rights. The claim is that assets are private and commercially usable. Export the original GLB rather than a screenshot.
A real free tier. Starter credits are the only honest way to test whether the topology suits your pipeline before you pay.

How it compares with Meshy, Tripo and a local Hunyuan3D install

Charging per generation is not a warning sign. What matters is whether the schedule is published, whether a balance expires before it can be spent, whether the licence permits your use, and whether the exports open in software you own. On those points 3D AI Studio is more transparent than most credit-based generators. The comparison below is editorial judgement about positioning, not a benchmark.

Where a desktop or local tool wins outright

Running Hunyuan3D 2.x locally inside ComfyUI costs nothing per generation and keeps client art on your own machine, at the price of a GPU with roughly 12 to 24 GB of VRAM, a day of setup and slower iteration. Meshy and Tripo sell their own models directly, so if one of those is the only one you want, buy at the source. Retopology still belongs to Blender, Maya or ZBrush: generated meshes arrive as dense triangle soup, while animation-ready assets and clean LOD chains want quads placed deliberately. Parametric solids belong to Fusion 360, Onshape, FreeCAD and OpenSCAD.

Who should skip it, and what a fair alternative looks like

Skip it if the deliverable is a parametric solid, a watertight part that must print without repair, or an animation-ready character with clean quad topology; those belong to CAD software, mesh repair and a retopology tool. Skip it if you already run a local generative stack, or if you need three models a year rather than three hundred. It is a fair purchase for a generalist who wants image-to-3D, text-to-3D, texturing, rigging, remeshing and format conversion in one browser tab without a GPU. That comparison workflow is what Open3DAI is built around: one local procedural engine plus optional third-party adapters you connect with your own API keys, so one prompt can be run through several engines side by side before export. It exports GLB, glTF, OBJ, STL, PLY and 3MF, ships 48 format converters, 12 browser tools and a REST API, and does not do rigging, animation, automatic retopology, UV unwrapping or CAD-grade parametric solids.

Run it yourself in Open3DAI

Send the same prompt or image to several engines, compare the meshes side by side, then export GLB, glTF, OBJ, STL, PLY or 3MF. Creating an account grants free credits and needs no card.
